Dubai to set up First Gastroenterology hospital

Dubai Health Authority attracts Korean investments to establish first Gastroenterology hospital in Dubai

Scope Investment and the renowned South Korean medical centre Asan Medical Centre have joined forces to create Dubai’s first comprehensive gastroenterology hospital. The contract, which was signed on June 23, 2023, establishes the foundation for the management and operation of the Asan GI Hospital-UAE, a specialised hospital designed to treat a variety of gastrointestinal ailments.

With a 65-bed capacity, the Asan GI Hospital-UAE will offer comprehensive treatment for gastrointestinal diseases that impact children as well as those related to the colon, liver, bile duct, pancreas, and stomach. The hospital’s comprehensive plan will raise the bar for the treatment of complex disorders and close the region’s current gap in specialised care for gastrointestinal conditions.

The center will offer a wide range of advanced therapies and interventions, includes minimally invasive endoscopic techniques, surgical treatments for the initial stages of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, weight loss surgery for the treatment of obesity, and specialised care for pediatric gastrointestinal conditions. Through the integration of modern equipment and the knowledge of a team of world-class specialists, the hospital seeks to change gastrointestinal healthcare in the UAE and provide the most effective possible results for therapy for patients.

In 2019, Asan Medical Centre and Scope Investment started to work together, which marked the launch of the route that led to this remarkable project. In 2020, a detailed market analysis and feasibility assessment was conducted in order to examine market trends and develop operational and financial assumptions. The relationship became formal with the signature of the Joint Venture Agreement in July 2021.

The joint venture business ASAN Specialty Hospital FZ – LLC was founded in Dubai Healthcare City to realise the ambition, and property in Dubai Healthcare City Phase 2 was acquired for the hospital’s development. The selection of contractors will happen along with the completion of detailed designs and building specifications. The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place in the next months.

ASAN Medical Centre and Scope Investment have achieved a critical juncture in the cooperation with the signature of the Operations and Management Agreement. Both organisations are devoted to offer the best calibre of care by adopting modern facilities, innovative technology, and a staff of exceptional specialists. The joint effort is to alter the healthcare industry, establish new care standards, and have a long-term influence on the well-being of people in the UAE and abroad.

The construction of the hospital in Dubai Healthcare City, spanning 21,150 square meters, is set to begin shortly. This state-of-the-art facility will feature seven ground floors and two basement levels, with an anticipated completion date in 2026. After this, the hospital will be ready to serve and provide its wide range of patient services.

Following the completion of construction, the forthcoming hospital will mark a historic milestone as Asan Medical Center’s inaugural establishment beyond South Korea. Additionally, it will stand as the first hospital in the Arab Gulf region dedicated to specializing in digestive system healthcare. This development is poised to enhance the emirate’s appeal as a premier destination for health tourism, capitalizing on the center’s extensive expertise to cater specifically to patients within this medical domain.
