The 2025 AHA Fast Facts Report, based on FY 2023 data, provides infographics and visualisations on government hospitals, hospitals by state, and hospital bed capacity.

 Oversees 6,093 hospitals across the U.S.
 Publishes annual surveys with data on:
      • Government hospitals
      • Hospitals by state
      • Hospital bed capacity
AHA Community Hospitals Overview
      • Defined as non-federal, short-term general, and special hospitals
      • Special services include obstetrics, gynaecology, eye, ear, nose, and throat care, long-term acute-care, rehabilitation, orthopaedic, etc
      • Includes academic medical centers or teaching hospitals
      • Excludes hospitals not accessible by the public, like prison hospitals or college infirmaries
AHA Other Hospitals
Includes non-federal long-term care hospitals and hospital units within an institution Includes:
      • Non-federal long-term care hospitals
      • Hospital units within institutions
      • Facilities with an average length of stay of 30 days or more
AHA System Definition
Multihospital System: Two or more hospitals owned, leased, sponsored, or managed by a central organisation
Diversified Single Hospital System
      • Three or more healthcare organisations
      • At least 25% of these are pre-acute or post-acute care facilities
