Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness – Service Delivery Platform

Embarking on a journey of healthcare transformation, the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness unveils its ambitious vision in the Annual Performance Plan 2024-2025. With an extensive network of 564 service points, including 447 primary healthcare hubs, 52 hospitals, and 49 EMS stations, the commitment is to revolutionise healthcare access. The innovative platform, spanning Home and Community Based Care (HCBC), Primary Care, and Intermediate Care, forms the cornerstone of the inclusive healthcare delivery model. Notably, the City of Cape Town oversees 101 of these facilities, encompassing clinics and specialised services.

As the Department charts a course towards a healthier tomorrow, the focus remains unwavering. In the 2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, key initiatives are prioritised:

  • Continuing construction projects for Tygerberg Central Hospital, Belhar Regional Hospital, and Klipfontein Regional Hospital

  • Emphasising Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Infection Prevention and Control, Fire compliance, Lift maintenance, Maintenance projects, Alternative electrical supply, and Acute Psychiatric Units

  • Ensuring completion of Design projects up to the current Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) stage

  • Deferring Health Technology (HT) projects not linked to a Capital Infrastructure project
