The Sultanate of Oman is set to transform its healthcare landscape with the announcement of groundbreaking initiatives approved by the Council of Ministers, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The projects represent a progressive measure toward elevating the nation’s healthcare standards.
Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al-Sabti, Minister of Health, revealed to the Oman News Agency that the Council of Ministers has given the green light for a nationwide programme focused on the early detection of cancers among women. This initiative will see the establishment of seven specialised early detection units distributed across Oman’s governorates. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), the programme underscores the government’s focus to foster early intervention measures and support preventive care.
In addition, Oman is poised to enhance its cancer treatment capabilities with the creation of a state-of-the-art nuclear and radiopharmaceutical centre. This facility will cater to the growing demand for advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services while positioning Oman as a hub for cancer care research within the region.
To address the increasing need for specialised eye care, a national ophthalmology centre will also be established. Equipped with the latest diagnostic advancements, this facility aims to provide comprehensive eye care services.
In a trailblazing effort toward personalised healthcare, Oman will launch the national genome and human data initiative, known as the Omani Genome programme. This pioneering project will develop a comprehensive genomic reference database for all Omanis, enhancing diagnostic precision and promoting tailored medical treatments that align with individual genetic profiles.
Dr. Al-Sabti emphasised the Ministry of Health’s commitment to the swift and effective implementation of these initiatives.
These transformative healthcare projects align seamlessly with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The initiative prioritises equitable, high-quality healthcare across all regions within the country. The measures complement a series of ongoing health infrastructure projects, further cementing Oman’s dedication to build a robust and inclusive healthcare system.
